Unable to login on web browser

Login fails with ‘Failed to register browser, please clear website data’  or sticks on the "login successful screen".

Cached website data

It is possible that a web browser could have saved some data that is causing a problem. Clearing this data will reset the web browser so that it is considered a new web browser. Please choose your browser from the list below and follow the steps to clear the cache.


Desktop Google Chrome

  • Whilst on the website www.penstripe-edu, click the padlock in the address bar 
  • Select Show cookies and site data
  • Select the first item, then click Remove, do this for each of the items in the list until the list is empty
  • Click on the Blocked tab and verify the list is empty
  • Click Close and refresh the web page, wait for it to fully load before logging in.


Desktop Internet Explorer

Note that this will clear offline data from other sites as this browser doesn’t yet support clearing site specific data.

  • Click the cog menu (top right) and select Internet Options
  • Click the Delete button under Browser history
  • Ensure Preserve Favourites website data and Cookies and website data are ticked, all other options should be unticked
  • Click Delete
  • Refresh the web page, wait for it to fully load before logging in.



iPad Safari


Ensure Safari is closed (swipe up with multiple fingers, then swipe safari up off the screen to close it)


  • Go to: Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data

  • Tap Edit in the top right

  • Tap the minus sign next to www.penstripe-edu.com and then tap Delete

Desktop Mozilla Firefox

Note that this will clear offline data from other sites as this browser doesn’t yet support clearing site specific data.

  • Click on the hamburger menu (top right) and select Options
  • Select Privacy from the left hand menu and click clear your recent history
  • Expand out Details and untick all options, then tick Offline Web Site Data
  • Change the time range to clear to Everything and click Clear Now
  • Refresh the web page, wait for it to fully load before logging in.
